These photos show the start ot the camouflaging process.
The first photo shows the paper mask I used to establish the pattern of the camouflage. This is 4 ply Strathmore art paper and the odd shapes are lasercut leftovers from another project.
I thought the shapes looked like something the Germans might use on a tank and that they could actually be cut in full size from some sheets of cardboard. The art paper is ideal for this kind of masking because it will hold up to the wet paint and it can be bent to conform to the shape of the tank.

The second photo shows the first pass with the Green camouflage. The mask is bent to allow it to sit down on the surface of the tank but it's not taped tightly to it. I have sprayed Green on the hull side, flipped the mask and bent it to fit the front of the hull. This breaks up the line of the mask and makes the painting more random looking. I was ready to allow for some overspray or accidental shifting of the mask. I imagined in real life, the painters would probably have just held the template against the hull and quickly moved it to another area to speed up the process.

The third photo shows the Green color on the tank. I had to be careful to allow room for the Brown color and still have some yellow areas.
In the background is the plastic strainer I use for airbrushing.
