These photos show the Wespe as the painting process begins.
The first photo shows it with a coat of primer. This is the Krylon metal primer I describe in another article. I chose this primer because I thought the green would be a good first coat in case I missed any spots with my finish colors, or in case I removed too much paint during the weathering process and the primer was revealed.

The second photo shows the Wespe with it's base coat of "Ordnance Yellow" or my opinion of the color. I used ceramic paints mixed together to get a shade I thought looked good. I wasn't too concerned about getting any exact color as I assumed the overall color would shift as I added some weathering and grime to the tank.

I didn't think to take a photo of the base color paints but this shows the colors I used for the camouflage. These paints need to be thinned with water and poured through a fine mesh strainer into your airbrush cup. The pigments probably aren't as finely ground as scale model paints but they airbrush just fine. I primarily use a Paasche model H single action airbrush. I prefer this rather basic airbrush to the more sophisticated double action airbrushes because you can spray heavier pigmented paints more easily without clogs, they can take a lot of abuse such as dropping on the floor (it happens) and replacement parts are more readily available from different sources when you are up against a deadline.
